About Devon, AB

Devon, Alberta

The Town of Devon was originally built to accommodate the oil boom of 1947, after the discovery of the Leduc-Woodbend Oil Field by Imperial Oil. Discovery Well #1, the most famous oil well in Alberta, is located 1 km south of the Town of Devon. The name “Devon” comes from the Devonian rock formation base in which oil is found.

Devon is a very unique community. It became labelled as “Canada’s Model Town”, since it was the first municipality in Canada to receive approval from a Regional Planning Commission.

Our proximity to the beautiful North Saskatchewan River provides unsurpassed opportunities for outdoor recreation and tourism activities.

We are the only community in the Edmonton region that owns and operates our own water, sanitary sewer and natural gas distribution and treatment systems.

Devon, Lions Campground

This serene campground is located on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River, adjacent to the Devon Golf & Conference Centre. There are over 100 sites to accommodate all RV’s, from tents to fifth-wheel units. Each site has a fire pit. The campground has a laundromat (3 washers and 2 dryers) and free showers. Pets on leashes are welcome. The park is connected to the Town of Devon and the river valley through numerous trails, which are great for walking, jogging or biking.

There are three facilities for rent to accommodate groups of 40 to 125 people – ideal for reunions, company barbeques, weddings, etc. Daily, weekly and monthly rates are available. Picnic areas are also available, allowing visitors to spend the day nestled in the river valley. Reservations are always recommended. An on-site manager ensures that the park is a quiet family retreat.
